Nicholas & Amanda Pre-Wedding Shoot with Redco

Nicholas and Amanda's Pre-wedding MTV (done with Jeremy of Redco) is out. Some screen grabs were posted up a few weeks back...

Remembering the shoot, we went out with the song "Lovebug" (by the Jonas Bros) in our head and some printed pages of a foxtrot dance sequence and left everything else to instinct. The results turned out pretty good....

And I must say that our chemistry with Jeremy is getting better all the time. We build on each other's ideas during the conceptualization phase, and during the shoot, we know when to retreat to give each other space and when to go in for the shots. For example, when he sees my cam on the stabilizer with the wide angle lens on, he knows exactly my arc of fire and my impending cam movement, and he'll do his best to stay out of my shot by running alongside me or hiding behind obstacles. And by the same account, I know how his composition when he merely dish out posing instructions to the couple. It feels even better whenever we work together on an AD wedding. We dun even have to say a word.

The full MTV will only be allowed for public viewing on our Vimeo collection after Nicholas and Amanda's wedding this Sun 20.09.2009 (i.e. we'll remove the password lock). Provided the couple agrees of course... They'll be screening it from the projector prior to their march in. Hence it is to be kept under wraps for now.

Sad to say, we wun be covering their AD wedding, for our 2 slots are already booked 1 yr ahead for this hot date.

So for couples reading this, please book all your wedding services early if your AD falls on a hot date (e.g. we've rejected more than 20 couples for 3rd Oct 09! More than 10 for each of 25th Oct, 21st Nov and 6th Dec, etc.)

I was screening and explaining to a couple the fun of capturing Hock Lai & Ei Leen's pre-wedding MTV clip when a pair of hands covered my eyes from behind. I turned around and was taken very much by surprise to see Eil Leen!!! Ha! I immediately told the couple that the stars of the MTV clip they were watching were standing right in front of them!

Here are some pics of our booth setup outside Stamford ballroom. Our huge backdrop and 2 more bar top tables for Redco and Paulgohphotography made us the most prominent booth.

Wedding Fair at Fairmont Singapore

To all our fans and prospective couples, Alvinadelineweddings will be hosting a booth at Fairmont Singapore's wedding fair this coming Sunday (13th Sep) at the Stamford ballroom. As we will be teaming up with Paulgohphotography and Redcophotography at this fair, we are going to offer some discounts (never before) for AD photo + cinematography and Pre-wedding photo + cinematography respectively.

Our 1st Wedding Cinematography Workshop!

It was a dream come true for us when we conducted our very own wedding cinematography workshop on Aug 20th and 21st! Yes, this post has come a bit late as we had been up to our necks with post-productions for our wedding couples. Nevertheless, here's some peeks into what happened during that 2 days of the hands-on workshop.

We started off the 1st day with the fundamentals of "how we approach an AD wedding day project". This was held in the cosy INK bar at Fairmont with top notch support from the F&B department throughout the day. Thank you Jenny and Davin!

We have to be sure that the participants get the basics right before the subsequent hands-on sessions. This is also the part where we share with them our fail-safe method of capturing any single activity. In addition, each participants had done some reparatory homework 1 week prior when they were each given a set of DVDs on Moving Camera Techniques by Vonweddingfilms. Some mentioned that they were almost like Tai Chi instructional DVDs!

Everyone had a great time. Adeline was capturing me during the classroom session. Chris, Swee Fong and Why Keen of Ichirofilms popped in as well. They provided some valuable perspectives too. Perhaps the next workshop will be a WCG effort!

Some scenes from day 2 when we were at the model bride's house as we go through the various stages of an actual wedding day. We brought the bridal gown downstairs to the playground for some shots too!

It was a challenge to get the participants to focus on the workshop as they often start discussing hardware whenever they had the chance. This is inevitable as quality videography involves lots of sophisticated equipment that never fail to fascinate (I'm guilty of it too!). However, one must always bear in mind that it is the person behind the camera that is producing the art. Equipment must be in the right hands to produce quality works.

May did an excellent job on our model bride. The pictures speak for themselves. She did not hold back anything just because this was a videography workshop. The full works was done on the model bride. With us stopping May now and then for demonstrations of camera angles, the makeup plus hairdo took longer then the usual 1.5 hrs.

And with DANG bridal's gown that comes with full length bridal veil that touches the floor, our bride was a stunner. I was quite afraid that the participants my get distracted.... hmm... maybe they captured addition footages of the model?

Oh, we mocked up the preparations by the bridesmaids too. And we had an experience bridesmaid to help out!

The church hands-on was where we demonstrated our setup process prior to the ceremony. Tripod placement, laying of audio cables, placement of mp3 recorder, setting up the wireless mic on the groom, etc. It is the planning that matters most for a church wedding. By knowing the detailed ceremony proceedings, you'll know how to position yourself at every moment and not miss any shots.

To end it off, we did a mini shootout of the bride at the end of the workshop.

Jeremy & Ann Pre-Wedding

Digging our brains for ideas, we want to bring out how music connects the two hearts together. Besides taking outstanding photo shoots, Jeremy is highly musically inclined. We retraced the footsteps back to the very 1st time they met. So how exactly did Jeremy win the hands of our lovely Ann? All will be revealed in their pre-wedding video clip.

Nicholas & Amanda

We did a lifestyle shoot with Nicholas and Amanda. Under the hot sun, we were burnt and got bitten by the mosquitoes. Big commando mosquitoes! All of us wanted to jump whenever the mosquitoes zzing.. past us. But the ocuple kept their cool and posed. Nice!

Yih Huei & Anna

Yih Huei and Anna is one couple who truly enjoyed their wedding day (from our experience, this is not common)Nothing could fret them. Everything was perfect and falls into place nicely for them. I can tell you, it is the couple's attitude on the AD that matters. If one takes it easy and not be too bothered about the little things, it will naturally be a perfect wedding.

The Church of St. Theresa was where the wedding took place. We like the church very much, very grand, spacious, long aisle. The couple's family and friends walked down the aisle just before Anna and her Dad. Its a celebration for the entire family!

We ran into some minor problems during the wedding vows even tho Shem and myself had attended the rehearsal 2 days prior. 1st of all, the couple's parents stood up and joined in as witnesses! This came unexpected as this wasn't the case during the rehearsal! The pastor, the couple and the witnesses huddled to form a closed circle which blocked our angles! We had to go up and gently tap Yih Huei's dad's shoulder and request him to take 1 step back so that I can capture the putting-on of the rings.

2ndly, Yih Huei was just too tall for my tripod shot! From my perspective, his shoulder was blocking Anna's face! I couldn't get Anna's expression when Yih Huei was saying his vows! Thank god we had a 3rd cam capturing the couple from the aisle. That together with Shem's camera covering Yih Huei, gave me the confidence to unplug the 30 m audio cable (which I had painstakingly laid all the way from the soundroom) from my camera, and moved up closer to the altar to get a better shot. Will have to note this danger about tall grooms next time. We had to fall back on our onboard mics, wireless mic on Yih Huei, and mp3 ambient recorder (not too bad... 3 audio backups).

Is it the Indonesian practice for the wedding couple to express their gratitute to their parents during a church wedding? Very touching that the couple kneeled down in front of their parents and hugged them.
